Cruising Notes
This is a great place to base a yacht or barge in France as we are at the centre of a spiders web of canals, and you have a choice of 6 directions in which to cruise. There are plenty of alternatives depending on the length of vacation available and here are 3 examples 1/ For a weekend you can go to Auxonne, Seurre, Chalon, Dole, Dijon or just drop anchor or tie to a tree on the river Saône and fish or swim.
|
| 2/
For a week you can take the Marne canal to Langres, the Burgundy canal
to the top pound, up the Doubs to Besançon, down the Saône
to Macon or Lyon, the Canal du Centre (best in the autumn as the vineyards
are absolutely gorgeous when the leaves turn gold), or up the Saône
through the villages along the river to Gray and beyond.
3/ For those lucky enough to get a month's break or more, you can take a loop North via Nancy or Strasbourg or Paris, or even go down to the Med for a week at sea if you have a suitable vessel. |

| How to get here
We are based in the Burgundy region about 300 kilometers south east of Paris, 100 kilometers from Geneva, 25 kilometers from Dijon, 30 kilometers from Beaune. There are very good highway connections in every direction. If you are visiting by car we can send you a map with the highway exits marked. We are about 10 kilometers from the highway and Saint Jean de Losne is well signposted. We also have excellent train connections from Paris via the high speed train (TGV). à Dijon. |

| Burgundy as a tourist
Burgundy is of course well known for its fine wines and excellent food. The countryside is very green with rolling hills and forests. Towns and villages are generally built in the local gray stone and are well kept and decorated with flowers in the summer months. Local people are very welcoming to boaters especially in the small villages through which the canals pass. Saint Jean de Losne has also become the most important canal boat center in France. We are at the heart of the navigable central canal and river network |
